Mark dropped Ant off at daycare again this morning. I think that this transition is probably harder because we're only doing two days a week, T/R, which means it is a long time in between trips! M. said that Ant was again not very pleased to be there, very clingy, espeically after M told the teacher he had to go.
But, when we called later in the day, the teacher said that he was already doing much better than he had last week, at the time they had just gotten in from outside (love the 60 degree day!) and he had played on the slides and in the ride-in car. He also made a collage today, a few pieces of paper and stickers and foam thingies stuck to a piece of construction paper. I do have to wonder how much of that was his effort vs. the teacher's!
When Mark picked him up, they were in the middle of afternoon snack, with Ant sitting down at the little table they use. Although his eyes leaked a couple of tears when he saw his dad he stayed sitting until he was done. Which I think is an excellent sign.
He has taken to sleeping with a largish Donald Duck my MIL got for him a couple of months ago. It took quite a long time for him to be at all interested in a 'lovie', but Donald is definitely it. Very cute when we put him down; he just rolls over onto his side, grabs Donald by the head, and off to la-la land. We figured having Donald at daycare would be a good idea, as well as putting him in a sleepsack for his nap, as that's what we do at home. Apparently he has taken to carrying the sleepsack around with him at daycare, which I think is totally sweet, but also makes my heart hurt a little bit because he doesn't do that at home and I know it's just because he wants that extra security.

That whole transition to daycare can be SO hard! I remember how hard it was when my girl was little, and how her tears really broke our hearts.
Can I offer a piece of assvice regarding Ant's lovey? If it is in any way possible, can you try to acquire a second Donald for him, then use them and wash them interchangeably so they wear approximately evenly? IF it ever becomes lost, you automatically have a backup available.
We once lost our girl's beloved Baseball Bear for 3 weeks, and it was three weeks of sheer hell and sleepless nights (due to her taking it to preschool and then trekking to a friend's house). We now have a rule that beloveds only leave the house when we are staying overnight somewhere, but that undoubtedly works better for a 5YO than a 1YO... FWIW. :)
I think it's pretty cool that Ant's finding ways to comfort himself while he adapts to the change. These little people are really amazing creatures!
I totally 2nd what tonya said re: "backup lovie"! We're fortunate that K has a few lovies that will work in a pinch. WAY fortunate!
Hang in there w/the daycare. It will get better and he'll start making friends. Then once he steps foot in the door, he'll be off to the cars or something. :-)
